Who We Are
Hunter "Rooster" J Childs.
My name is Hunter, some people call me Rooster a nickname given to me by my beloved grandpa Jim, who also happened to be called Rooster. I was born on November 20, in 1998 to Jessica Timm and Jim Childs. My dad works as a Lawn care and property management company, my mom works for the Washington County Government Center in Stillwater, MN. I've been tagging along with my family chasing ducks and geese for as long as I can remember, I shot my first mallard drake when I was 3 when my mentor, Rick Connors held the gun and let me aim and shoot it. Although I never counted that, that was truly my first duck hunting experience. I took a break from involvement when I was 10, because I was the cool kid on the block and I thought deer hunting was better, but then my grandpa Rooster introduced me into Grouse Hunting as he was starting to take me under his wing. And boy did I go for that stuff; we went out every weekend and brought home dinner, but you'd be surprised at how many ducks I could have killed out there, but the shot restrictions limited my abilities. After Papa Rooster passed away in 2013, in an effort to uphold his name & decided that I was gonna do everything in my power to honor my grandpa, so I got back in the life of a duckman's and I've been doing it ever since. Jobwise, I currently hop wherever people need help, most of my money goes towards gear for fall and winter, but currently to help boost Farside.
My Goal with Farside Outdoors is to be what you might call, "Unique" or "Different." Because I would like to make waterfowling popular again, and my style matches the Wisconsin DNR's Learn To Hunt programs, and friend Jordan Marsh's life as owner of Marsh Outdoors. But I want to take it that one step further and make it my career path. Because I am different from your average Joe, I don't see myself working at a gas station or at a desk for my first job, I like the idea of being my own man, so I am making Farside my life, it's all I know so I'm "sticking to my guns" and defying all odds to pursue a career in the outdoors. At the moment I am working on finding the right sponsors for my cause, and getting the video gear I need to get the job done. The purpose of FSO is to be reaching men and women of all ages, especially youth, to experience nature in several unique ways. As the founder of this endeavor, it is my express hope to encourage folks to become more engaged and interested in nature, either through hunting with a gun or shooting with a camera. The year round opportunities for fresh air and exciting adventures are endless. I developed a deep passion for the outdoors about ten years ago & there is no place I would rather be and the experiences I have had in the short period of time have been incredible. Talk about an Oddball, I went hunting for a wild turkey on the Farside property which is in Burnett County, WI (near Crex Meadows) and came home with a coyote! However, one of my most favorite passions is waterfowl; I've had considerable opportunities on river trips as well as Golden Pond, my grandparents property. I enjoy every aspect of the hunt immensely from decoy selection, i.e. Greenhead Gear Decoys (while I only have a few, have had success with your product!), to early morning strategy and set up to making duck gumbo! the Farside web site followers, I believe I have the ability to promote the outdoors. With product testing, it would be the theory of..."two birds with one stone." With video footage and commentary, I could get the job done. Along with more sophisticated video equipment, I am interested in testing apparel as well as duck calls, decoys and any other waterfowl hunting essentials.
